Wax On Wax Off delivered a well-deserved breakthrough victory with an impressive performance at Rockhampton, taking out the Maiden Handicap over 1050 metres. Freshened after a spell, the son of Sensei had already hinted that a win was close at hand when finishing a strong third at his first-up run on the Sunshine Coast, showing maturity and promise beyond his previous efforts.

The road trip north to Rockhampton proved a smart move, and with a confident, well-judged ride from jockey Cody Collis, the three-year-old gelding was always in the right position. When asked for his effort, Wax On Wax Off responded strongly, pulling away to score by a comfortable margin from his nearest rival, with a further four lengths back to the third-placed runner. It was a dominant display that left little doubt about his progress.

This victory should do wonders for Wax On Wax Off’s confidence moving forward and gives trainer Darren the opportunity to explore a range of racing options as the gelding continues to develop. Congratulations to all connections on a terrific win and an exciting result that looks set to be the first of more to come.
